For those of you who don't know, the shuttle program is nearing completion. We thought that it would be awesome to say that we attended one of the last launches so we found some people to mooch a condo off of and made plans to travel down to Florida with the Olivers.
The launch was scheduled for 3:47 so we arrived at Titusville (the town directly across from Kennedy Space Center) around 9:45 due to reports or record number crowds. We found a good spot to park on the side of the highway that pointed out of town and a public park directly across the street from which to watch said launch.
Snacking commenced immediately upon arrival and blanket spreading.
Binoculars are a must for launch waiting. The closest you can get is 9 miles away and we did not get tickets for that due to their $2000 scalped price.
Then we put up a tent and got really cozy. Auntie Freida brought lots of fun things to occupy the kiddos. I brought a sticker book.
Then after approximately 4 hours of waiting in anticipation, it got scrubbed. Don't they check all of the shuttles bits and pieces before launch day? Then it was going to be Sunday, then Monday, and now not earlier than May 10. We are still holding on to the dream of seeing a shuttle launch before it's all over.
We made the most of our time at the beach with good friends. We ate some $5 pizza, swam in the heated pool, and got locked out of the borrowed condo.
Sunday morning (before church) we headed to the beach to get some energy out of our early risers.
It was already quite bright at 8:00.
This dress was soaking wet when we departed the beach.
Auntie Freida loving on her girls.
The mighty Atlantic.
The only thing that would have improved this trip would have been an actual shuttle launch.
